Recovery Story from Manchester, New Hampshire

As a young athlete at a New Hampshire high school, Dan Duval began experiencing the full blown effects of alcoholism from a young age.

Duval would consume dangerous amounts of alcohol that caused him black out on various occasions. In one specific incident; he woke up and found himself in a New Hampshire jail after apparently having attempted to punch a state trooper.

His substance abuse was not limited to alcohol, and he would try everything from marijuana to LSD, and mushrooms to cocaine. At one point, his addiction was so out of control he owed a drug dealer seven thousand dollars.

After years of drug abuse, Duval realized his addiction was crippling his social life and deteriorating his physical state and decided to seek help by enrolling in a rehab center; a decision that would change his life forever.

Today, over two decades later, Duval is an outreach worker and high school athletics coach in Manchester, New Hampshire. He has found purpose in his life by coaching young teens on building friendships and relationships and stressing on the importance of family, and while continuously stating that "Whatever they put into this world is what they get out of it,” he continues to reach out to teens and families of addicts by sharing his journey and experiences.

Duval’s story is one of many successful stories of addicts who have recovered. You can also reach out and recover from the disease of addiction, find hope and start a new life.
