Percocet Addiction and Treatment
As more and more prescribed pain relievers promise to help patients cope with their unbearable ailments and pain, their serious side effects which include everything from overdosing to experience what patients identify as “euphoriant bliss” to liver failure and in many cases death, seem to leave us wondering if they should even be legalized to begin with.
In the last few decades the FDA has approved the use of many narcotic painkillers that while help patient cope with pain, prove themselves to be “habit forming” and in many cases simply addictive. All in which conclude to patient suffering from withdrawal symptoms that persist upon completion of prescribed dosage.
Marketed in North America since the 70’s, the combination of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen commonly known as “Percocet”, is a strong painkiller which when taken in the regular doses, alleviates pain in patients. Although strictly available only when prescribed by a healthcare physician, Percocet has fallen into the hands of many individuals already suffering from the detrimental effects of drug abuse. Often combined with alcohol, drug abusers seek to experience high levels of euphoric pleasure upon mixing the two, unaware of the fatal side effects.
Because of its chemical makeup which consists of Acetaminophen, a pain killer and Oxycodone, a narcotic analgesic, this drug should only be prescribed to individuals with severe and persisting aches and pains, by a certified healthcare physician to determine the appropriate amount dosage that must be administered.
If you or someone you know have started using Percocet for medical reasons and have now become addicted to it, and can't stop using the drug, please find professional help.
Because addiction is typically a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using the drug of their choice for a few days and be cured. Most patients addicted to prescription drugs require long-term or repeated episodes of care to achieve the ultimate goal of sustained abstinence of the drug and recovery of their lives.
