Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment - Treatments for Opioid Addiction

Individuals who abuse or are addicted to prescription opioid medications such as OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, Demerol, and Fentanyl can be treated sucessfully. Initially, depending on the level of addiction, the individual may need to undergo medically supervised detoxification to help reduce withdrawal symptoms; however, that is just the first step. Options for effectively treating addiction to prescription opioids are drawn from research on treating heroin addiction. Behavioral treatments, usually combined with medications are extremely effective.

For all addiction treatment needs and levels of care, Cove Center for Recovery – Drug Rehab, employs a team of qualified and caring addiction treatment professionals, offering a Treatment Program for Young Adults and Adults, who are addicted to prescription drug medications.

Cove's goal in addiction treatment is to treat the disease, build the individual's self confidence showing them how to take charge of their lives and reunite the family.

Cove's prescription drug addiction treatment programs are designed around a positive environment to boost the individual’s self-esteem and produce long term results. Therapy aka psychotherapy and counseling, helps patients develop coping skills that can help them to avoid relapse and has been shown to significantly improve the likelihood of long-term treatment success.

Other therapeutic modalities of treatment are helpful in resolving ongoing, interpersonal struggles. Trauma Therapy, Grief Therapy, Anger Management, Stress Management, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, and Meditation, are important therapeutic techniques each recovering individual receives at Cove Drug Rehab Center.

Cove Prescription Drug Addiction Treatment Program provides education on the cycle of addiction, in an effort to help each individual identify behaviors in the cycle and side-step relapse before it occurs. When an individual recognizes behaviors such as non-compliance with medication, excessive stress, denial or reduced effort in recovery groups such as NA, then the individual can STOP the relapse before it begins.

What Role Can The Criminal Justice System Play In The Treatment Of Drug Addiction?

Increasingly, research is demonstrating that treatment for drug-addicted offenders during and after incarceration can have a significant beneficial effect upon future drug use, criminal behavior, and social functioning. The case for integrating drug addiction treatment approaches with the criminal justice system is compelling. Combining prison- and community-based treatment for drug-addicted offenders reduces the risk of both recidivism to drug-related criminal behavior and relapse to drug use. For example, a recent study found that prisoners who participated in a therapeutic treatment program in the Maine State Prison and continued to receive treatment in a work-release program after prison were 70 percent less likely than nonparticipants to return to drug use and incur rearrest .

Individuals Who Enter Treatment Under Legal Pressure Have Outcomes As Favorable As Those Who Enter Treatment Voluntarily.

The majority of offenders involved with the criminal justice system are not in prison but are under community supervision. For those with known drug problems, drug addiction treatment may be recommended or mandated as a condition of probation. Research has demonstrated that individuals who enter treatment under legal pressure have outcomes as favorable as those who enter treatment voluntarily.
The criminal justice system refers drug offenders into treatment through a variety of mechanisms, such as diverting nonviolent offenders to treatment, stipulating treatment as a condition of probation or pretrial release, and convening specialized courts that handle cases for offenses involving drugs. Drug courts, another model, are dedicated to drug offender cases. They mandate and arrange for treatment as an alternative to incarceration, actively monitor progress in treatment, and arrange for other services to drug-involved offenders.

The most effective models integrate criminal justice and drug treatment systems and services. Treatment and criminal justice personnel work together on plans and implementation of screening, placement, testing, monitoring, and supervision, as well as on the systematic use of sanctions and rewards for drug abusers in the criminal justice system. Treatment for incarcerated drug abusers must include continuing care, monitoring, and supervision after release and during parole.

If An Alcoholic Is Unwilling To Get Help, What Can You Do About It?

It can be a challenge to get your loved one to get treatment for his/her addiction. An alcoholic can't be forced to get help except under certain circumstances, such as a violent incident that results in court-ordered treatment or medical emergency. But you don't have to wait for someone to "hit rock bottom" to act. Many alcoholism treatment specialists suggest the following steps to help an alcoholic get treatment:
Stop all "cover ups." Family members often make excuses to others or try to protect the alcoholic from the results of his or her drinking. It is important to stop covering for the alcoholic so that he or she experiences the full consequences of drinking.

Time your intervention.  The best time to talk to the drinker is shortly after an alcohol-related problem has occurred - like a serious family argument or an accident. Choose a time when he or she is sober, both of you are fairly calm, and you have a chance to talk in private.

Be specific.  Tell the family member that you are worried about his or her drinking. Use examples of the ways in which the drinking has caused problems, including the most recent incident.

State the results.  Explain to the drinker what you will do if he or she doesn't go for help - not to punish the drinker, but to protect yourself from his or her problems. What you say may range from refusing to go with the person to any social activity where alcohol will be served, to moving out of the house. Do not make any threats you are not prepared to carry out.

Get help.   Gather information in advance about treatment options in your community. If the person is willing to get help, call immediately for an appointment with a treatment counselor. Offer to go with the family member on the first visit to a treatment program and/or an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.

Call on a friend.  If the family member still refuses to get help, ask a friend to talk with him or her using the steps just described. A friend who is a recovering alcoholic may be particularly persuasive, but any person who is caring and nonjudgmental may help. The intervention of more than one person, more than one time, is often necessary to coax an alcoholic to seek help.
Find strength in numbers.  With the help of a health care professional, some families join with other relatives and friends to confront an alcoholic as a group. This approach should only be tried under the guidance of a health care professional who is experienced in this kind of group intervention.

Get support.  It is important to remember that you are not alone. Support groups offered in most communities include Al-Anon, which holds regular meetings for spouses and other significant adults in an alcoholic's life, and Alateen, which is geared to children of alcoholics. These groups help family members understand that they are not responsible for an alcoholic's drinking and that they need to take steps to take care of themselves, regardless of whether the alcoholic family member chooses to get help.

Drug Rehab Programs Offering Family Workshop

Alcohol and drug addiction are major problems in our society. Addiction disrupts not only the individual using chemicals, but every person associated with that person. Addiction can lead to financial ruin, broken families, criminal behavior and even death.
The Family Workshop program was created to help these in need (addict and family). It is our primary focus to assist our patients and their families return to a healthy lifestyle.

One of the most important factors of the patient’s sobriety and future recovery is the understanding and support of the family. We offer a monthly intensive two-day Family Workshop. Using the family systems approach, the family and/or significant others are given education and therapy to help them cope with the impact of the problem in their own lives.
Patient and family members are taught to be respectful and to communicate openly and directly with each other. The family is given insights regarding boundaries and self-care as they relate to their relationship with the patient.

The program concludes with the family members exchanging positive affirmations and setting of future goals. The newly sober patient practices, develops, and strengthens their recovery behaviors while using their alliance with The Family as a therapeutic and supportive resource. This is an opportunity to develop a sense of comfort in their sober lifestyle before being discharged from treatment. Family workshop is extremely valuable to families as it greatly enhances the patient’s recovery process.

Intensive Outpatient Programs for Substance Abuse Treatment

An Intensive Outpatient Program is a day or nighttime treatment program that employs an integrated and individualized schedule of recognized substance abuse and mental health treatment modalities.

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed as an alternative to inpatient treatment or as an aftercare program, upon the successful completion of an inpatient program. An intensive outpatient program begins with a psychological evaluation, a psychosocial assessment, and other assessments used to identify individual needs.  The therapeutic approach includes an individual treatment plan specifically designed to address the issues each person brings to treatment.  Individual, group, and family therapy are the cornerstone of a comprehensive program.  Additional therapeutic services are offered including Trauma, Self-Harm, Eating Disorders, Marriage and Family, Adolescent Behavior, Mental Health and Depression Therapies, as well as other therapeutic approaches as needed.

The goals of the Intensive Outpatient programs are to provide psychiatric and/or substance abuse treatment to individuals in a less restrictive setting than an inpatient unit. The benefits of this type of care include: lessening the disruption of social, family, and community ties; allowing the patient to test new skills in a more neutral environment than an inpatient hospital setting; providing treatment milieu that provides flexibility in the numbers of treatment days per week, thus allowing a patient to pursue other activities, such as shortening of the inpatient stay, or preventing the need for full hospitalization.

An effective Intensive Outpatient Program will provide a positive experience geared toward enhancing self-esteem and promoting effective patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Addiction Treatment Programs - Drug Rehab in South Carolina

Finding the right drug rehabilitation can be difficult. Many addiction treatment centers offer services that you don't really need. Cove Center for Recovery – drug addiction treatment center offers services that are directly related to the client’s drug of abuse.
We understand that drug rehabilitation will mean a different thing for everybody that comes to our addiction treatment center, but the end goal is always the same, freedom from addiction with a new vision on what to look forward to in life.

Self detoxification is for many, next to impossible. This is often because of changes in the brain functioning. When an individual uses drugs for an extended period of time, research has shown that substantial changes take place in the individual’s brain. These changes make it difficult for the individual to go without using drugs and cope with day to day life. Attending a drug rehab will help the individual gain tools that are invaluable in their recovery process.
Our experience has led us to believe it is just as important to correct the imbalances in life caused by recreational drug use or other addictive behaviors. Cove Center for Recovery adopts a mind, body and spirit approach to addiction treatment, so our clients are more likely to leave with a sense of purpose and positive outlook on their future after addiction. It is important for both the individual and their family to realize that it takes more than just strong will power to conquer drug addiction. It takes professional help from a drug rehab program or alcohol rehab program to give the individual the right tools for a complete recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Rather it is a drug rehab or an alcohol rehab, prescription drug abuse rehab or other self destructive behaviors Cove Center for Recovery offers the right addiction treatment for you or your loved one.

Intervention is a process of uniting loved ones, related to or friends of an individual struggling with alcohol addiction, drug addiction, or prescription drug addiction. An Intervention is necessary when an individual struggling with alcohol addiction, drug addiction, or prescription drug addiction is in denial of the problem, yet the chaos and destruction of behaviors is evident to loved ones, family, and friends.

Intervention works!

Addiction Treatment works! However, in South Carolina, it can be difficult to get an individual to addiction treatment. Most people do not know the exact nature of the problem or situation for which self-medication behavior eases the pain. Whether it is the individual alcoholic or addict, or the loved ones involved, most people are unable to identify the underlying issues, prior to addiction treatment. An individual might be struggling with depression, anxiety, or other mental health issues. Trauma or a lack of appropriate coping skills might also be the underlying issues. Regardless, an Intervention works and addiction treatment works, if the individual struggling with addiction can find his/her way to a drug rehab in South Carolina. Advice from a trained Interventionist will help you determine the most suited steps and timing for the addiction intervention.

Percocet Addiction and Treatment

As more and more prescribed pain relievers promise to help patients cope with their unbearable ailments and pain, their serious side effects which include everything from overdosing to experience what patients identify as “euphoriant bliss” to liver failure and in many cases death, seem to leave us wondering if they should even be legalized to begin with.

In the last few decades the FDA has approved the use of many narcotic painkillers that while help patient cope with pain, prove themselves to be “habit forming” and in many cases simply addictive. All in which conclude to patient suffering from withdrawal symptoms that persist upon completion of prescribed dosage.

Marketed in North America since the 70’s, the combination of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen commonly known as “Percocet”, is a strong painkiller which when taken in the regular doses, alleviates pain in patients. Although strictly available only when prescribed by a healthcare physician, Percocet has fallen into the hands of many individuals already suffering from the detrimental effects of drug abuse. Often combined with alcohol, drug abusers seek to experience high levels of euphoric pleasure upon mixing the two, unaware of the fatal side effects.
Because of its chemical makeup which consists of Acetaminophen, a pain killer and Oxycodone, a narcotic analgesic, this drug should only be prescribed to individuals with severe and persisting aches and pains, by a certified healthcare physician to determine the appropriate amount dosage that must be administered.

If you or someone you know have started using Percocet for medical reasons and have now become addicted to it, and can't stop using the drug, please find professional help.
Because addiction is typically a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using the drug of their choice for a few days and be cured. Most patients addicted to prescription drugs require long-term or repeated episodes of care to achieve the ultimate goal of sustained abstinence of the drug and recovery of their lives.

OxyContin Drug Abuse

Pain is no doubt the most common reason for physician consultation in the United States.
Every year, hundreds of thousands visit their healthcare physicians in search for an ailment that will help them cope with the discomforts of their chronic illnesses. Thousands of these patients will rely heavily on the prescribed medication to carry out even the simplest of daily activities. Many will become addicted without even noticing.
OxyContin is generally prescribed to cancer patients and others who suffer from serious, chronic illnesses that generate tremendous amounts of pain that cannot be alleviated with mild pain killers. Due to its powerful effects, OxyContin users undergo withdraw symptoms after being taken off the drug. In the last few years the number of people who abuse OxyContin has gone up and so have the number of patients seeking help at addiction treatment centers.
OxyContin has also been abuse not only as a painkiller medication but also as a new means for young adults to get high. Dissolved in liquids, crushed and snorted like heroine or injected to acquire the equivalent euphoric effects of other illegal drugs,  OxyContin abuse have caused  unnecessary fatalities in the last few years. Either use, initially taken for pain management or as means to get high are in most cases addictive and requires treatment.

If you or someone you know are addicted to OxyContin and can't stop using the drug, please find professional help.

Because addiction is typically a chronic disease, people cannot simply stop using the drug of their choice for a few days and be cured.
